CNI, in partnership with IBM Research India, is organizing a hackathon on Generative AI.

The objective of this hackathon is to spur the development of AI-driven solutions for the Indian context, harnessing the power of open-source technologies among Indian students.
The hackathon is open to all college students in India. Registrations close on August 24.

Research Exchange at the SPARC–UKIERI Workshop

CNI hosted the SPARC–UKIERI Workshop from 21–24 July 2025 in the ECE Department of IISc. The workshop brought together faculty and students to present their ongoing research, exchange ideas, and explore collaborations. Talks were delivered by Prof. Ayalvadi Ganesh (University of Bristol); Profs. Avishek Ghosh, Nikhil Karamchandani, Parthe Pandit, D. Manjunath from IIT Bombay; Prof. Rahul Vaze from TIFR; and Profs. Anurag Kumar, Chandramani Singh, Parimal Parag from IISc. Student presenters — Ankita Koley, Aniket Mukherjee, Moonmoon Mohanty, and Srinivas Nomula (IISc) — showcased their work and received valuable feedback. The workshop served as a vibrant platform for academic discussions and new collaborations.

Collaborating Against Oral Cancer – WHNCD 2025 at IISc

CNI, in collaboration with IISc and Biocon Foundation, hosted the World Head and Neck Cancer Day Event on 25–26 July 2025 at IISc. The two-day event, held in the ECE Department and Faculty Hall (main building), brought together experts and participants from across India and the world. Centered around the theme “Ideate, Innovate, and Implement”, the sessions explored cutting-edge approaches for oral cancer screening, AI-driven diagnostics, and community-based prevention strategies.

The event featured keynote talks from global leaders including experts from NIH, NCI, ACTREC, IARC (WHO), Biocon, and Karkinos Healthcare, alongside research presentations from IISc, AIIMS, MSMF, Strand Life Sciences, and others. A major highlight was the release of a White Paper on Oral Cancer Elimination in India and annual consensus documents on head and neck cancer management. With vibrant discussions, lab visits, and collaborative exchanges, the event served as a vital platform to shape strategies against oral and head & neck cancers.

Insights from Visiting Professors: Ramakrishnan and Tripathi

Prof. K. K. Ramakrishnan (University of California, Riverside) spoke on “Making Serverless Computing Efficient and Scalable”. He presented frameworks such as SPRIGHT, which improves serverless data-plane efficiency through event-driven shared memory, and SURE, a unikernel-based framework enhancing security and startup speed. He also highlighted recent extensions using RDMA for multi-node shared memory, pushing serverless computing toward higher performance and lower latency. Prof. Ramakrishnan’s visit included valuable interactions with faculty and students, fostering discussions on cloud computing challenges and future research directions.

Prof. Vishrant Tripathi (Purdue University) delivered a talk on “Scheduling for AoI: Distributed Protocols, Correlated Sources, and Non-Uniform Update Sizes”. He discussed extending centralized scheduling guarantees to distributed CSMA-style protocols, introduced a correlated monitoring problem where simple AoI-based policies perform nearly optimally, and explored scheduling strategies for non-uniform update sizes. During his visit, Prof. Tripathi also interacted with IISc faculty and students, engaging in discussions on open problems in wireless scheduling for real-time applications.
