Ubiquity and Evolution of Wi-Fi

Dr. Ashutosh Gore, VP Engineering, Reliance Jio

#316

Abstract

This talk starts with the evolution of indoor WLAN physical layer (PHY) technologies across 6 generations (Wi-Fi 3 to Wi-Fi 8). We start with the WLAN link budget, PHY block diagram and provide insights into practical aspects of key features such as 4K/8K QAM and UL MU MIMO. We briefly touch upon mmWave indoor Wi-Fi standards 802.11ad/ay and their applications. Finally, we talk about outdoor Wi-Fi in the unlicensed as well as licensed band regimes, along with their technological impact.
